Sylvia Kathryn DeVries, 97 of Randolph went to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Randolph Health Services.
Sylvia was born on September 28, 1921, daughter of Rudolph and Ella (Haima) Kempenaar. She attended Calvin College and taught at East Friesland School before she married. Sylvia was united in marriage to Charley DeVries on June 14, 1946, at Second Christian Reformed Church. She and her husband, Charley farmed in the Randolph area for most of their 66 years of married life. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with the extended family. Sylvia was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Sandra Steele, Rita Schmidt, Charles DeVries, Barbara (Harvey) Los, and Daryl (Brenda) DeVries; 10 Grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Harold (Fran) DeVries and sister-in-law, Mildred DeVries; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley in 2012, parents, all her siblings, two sons-in-law, Ray Steele and Ed Schmidt, and one great granddaughter.
Visitation for Sylvia will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Second Christian Reformed Church, 332 Tamarack Street, Randolph.
Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at church with Pastor Keith Buist officiating. Burial will take place in the Randolph Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Sylvia’s name and will be decided at a later date.
A special thank you to the staff of Randolph Health Services and Hillside Hospice of Beaver Dam for their wonderful care throughout her stay.
