Shirley Mae Peters

Shirley Mae Peters, age 98 of Waupun, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Waupun Christian Home with her family by her side.

Shirley was born on December 24, 1925, in Waupun, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ray and Esther (Henning) Bentley. She was a graduate of Waupun High School, class of 1943. On September 2, 1944, she was united in marriage to Wallace Peters at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun. Shirley was employed at Gysber’s Supermarket for 30 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a lifelong member of Pella Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, ladies aid member, soul accounting and altar guild. Shirley enjoyed golfing, sewing, needle crafting, ceramics and traveling.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Jo (Merten) Harmsen of Fond du Lac; son-in-law, Ira Palmer of Waupun; daughter-in-law, Carla Peters of Waupun; 9 grandchildren, Kip (Nancy) Peters, Ryan (Jeanette) Peters, Tammy (“Buzz”) Bussewitz, Cari (significant other, Roger Schueler) Vande Zande, Crystal (Dan) Slosser, Patricia Parzy, Jennifer (Joe) Rens, Joshua (Jill) Harmsen and Joseph (Margaret) Harmsen; 2 step-grandchildren, Chanda Ganz and Trista (Jason) Steinbach; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Peters; children, Marme Palmer and Randall Peters; grandson, Jeff Parzy; brother, Elsworth Bentley; brother-in-law, Lawrence Peters; sisters-in-law, Lois Pautsch, Ardell Miller, Helen Krueger and Marjorie Bentley.

Memorials may be established in Shirley’s name to SSM Hospice Fond du Lac, Waupun Christian Home, or Pella Lutheran Church.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Pella Lutheran Church, 315 S Madison St, Waupun, WI 53963.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Pella Lutheran Church with Pastor David Knuth officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
