Robert “Bob” Riel
Robert Richard Riel, age 70 of Waupun, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at his home.
Bob was born on June 11, 1946 in Waupun, a son of Dick and Fern (Oppermann) Riel. He worked at the Oakfield canning factory since he was a teenager. Bob collected antiques, enjoyed refinishing furniture and donated a lot of his time to church after retiring. There’s not a rummage sale he didn’t stop at for a “good deal.” Bob enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball and traveling to his tournaments. He looked forward to the weekends when Joel would stay over and taught him to play catch over the garage. Bob loved to tell jokes and put a smile on everyone’s face. And visited the “40” once a year…even if he was under duress!
Bob is survived by two daughters, Becky (Dave Owens) Riel of Franklin, MA and Talana (Paul) Grunert of Oak Creek; one grandson, Joel Grunert; one sister, Ramona (Arthur) Bennett of South Byron; nieces, nephews; Lucille (Ma) Ninneman, Barb (Don) Stellmacher, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail; his parents and a brother, Herman John.
Visitation for Bob will be held from 10:30 A.M. until the hour of service on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Pella Lutheran Church, 315 South Madison Street, Waupun.
A memorial service for Bob will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Pella Lutheran Church with Rev. David Knuth officiating.
A memorial fund has been established in Bob’s name.
