Richard James Towne, age 95, passed away on Saturday February 17, 2024. Richard was born October 2, 1928, a son of Claude and Maude (Frost) Towne. He was united in marriage to Jean (Deaver) Towne on August 12, 1950. Shortly after their marriage, he received a notice from the selective service to report on January 8, 1951 to the Korean War where he was wounded on Pork Chop Hill June 21, 1952. After he spent a month in a Norwegian MASH unit, he was shipped home and received his purple heart. Richard owned Towne Construction where he worked alongside his brothers, John, Ron and Jerome Towne, cousin, Marlin Towne, Brother in law, Ames Deaver, nephew, Kenneth Deaver with many more family members and friend, Ed Jazdzewski. He retired in 1984 and worked on camper ranches in CA, AZ, NM, TX. Richard and Jean returned to Wisconsin during the summer months to be with family. After their retirement travels, they returned to Waupun in 2005 where they enjoyed visits from family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, playing guitar and loved animals. Richard is survived by his two daughters, Linda Coehoorn (Steven Kwakkel) of Ripon and Faye (Steven) Zangl of Cecil; four grandchildren, Erik (Peggy) Coehoorn, Shelby (Joe) Schuhart, Trudy (Jeremy) Weber, and Nikki (Jonathan) Logan; 10 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; siblings, Lawrence (Jo Ann) Towne, Jerome (Jane) Towne, Ronald (Joanne), Donna (Fred) Baldwin, and Doris (Bernard) Vande Streek. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jean, Brother, John Towne and grandson, Jay Zangl. A private gathering will be held in spring.
