Michael (Mike) Witz, age 69, entered eternal rest on June 18, 2024. Michael was born in Madison, Wisconsin on April 24, 1955 to Roger and Nellie Witz.
Mike graduated from Madison East High School in Madison, Wisconsin in 1973. In 1975 he moved to the Milwaukee area where he resided for many years, where he worked mostly as a forklift driver. Later he moved back to the Madison area and had various jobs, with Placon being his last place of employment until he retired.
Mike will always be remembered for his love of flying kites and his patriotic spirit that he showed in his fascination with eagles and the American flag. He spent many hours at the VFW in Madison volunteering and enjoying conversations with the veterans. He was always extremely grateful for their service and his desire was for them to be honored. Mike’s hobbies included bowling, fishing, cooking, cb radio, crafting with pinecones, gardening, bird watching, and soaking in nature sounds. Mike was a hit at the apartment complex where he lived and would pass out sweets to the residents, earning him the name Candy Man.
Conversations with him would often start with “Do you remember when?” He had a great memory for things from the past and loved to reminisce.
One of Mike’s most favorite times in his life was when he was part of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corp. He made a lot of friends in the Corp and many wonderful memories. A song that always touched his heart was when the Corp played “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Janet (Rudi) Janzen; his father, Roger Witz; his brothers Randy and Pat (Jo) Witz; his sister Pam (Mark) Hron; four grandchildren – Daltyn, Mason, Jorja, and Colton Janzen; and many loved nieces and nephews. Mike was proceeded in death by his mother, Nellie Witz; his nephew, Trevor Hron; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Mike is now free to soar like an eagle, flying his kite to the highest of heights, and will never walk alone.
