Mary Katherine Zacharias

Mary Katherine Zacharias, age 89, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 25, 2018, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on October 8, 1928, in Richland, WI, the daughter of Clarence and Ruby (Lowery) Anderson. She was united in marriage to Edwin Zacharias in Milwaukee, WI, on June 3, 1950. Mary and Edwin had four children, Kathleen, Lynda, Denice and Mark. They raised their family in Milwaukee and later retired in Manchester. Throughout her life time, Mary worked at various full and part-time jobs, but the focus of her life had always been her dedication to her family. Her door was open to her numerous grandchildren that loved to stop by for treats or spend the night with their “favorite baby sitter.” Mary was always a gracious and welcoming host to anyone that passed through her door. She always had time and room enough for another plate at her table.

Mary especially loved to read and had a deep appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation, especially birds and flowers. She loved the Green Bay packers and enjoyed many good times with family and friends cheering them on to victory. She had a strong faith in God and regularly attended Edgewood Community Church of Waupun, WI.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Lynda Zacharias and Denice (Daniel) Braaksma; son, Mark Zacharias; stepson, Steve Denger; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Kathleen (Robert) Petruske and granddaughter, Kristel Plautz; brother, Charles “Bud” (Romelle) Anderson; step daughter-in-law, Wendy Denger.

Visitation for Mary will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 31, 2018, at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 31, 2018, at Markesan Community Funeral Home. Burial to follow at the Manchester Cemetery.
