Mary Elyn Hundt, was brought into everlasting life on July 3, 2018. She joins our dad and other friends and departed family in the next great journey.
Mary was born on June 3, 1945, the first daughter of Henry and Ruth (Schmude) Hennig. They at first resided in Waupun before eventually moving to Burnett. Soon she was joined by her sister Kristine. Mom grew up in Burnett, attended grade school in Burnett, and graduated from Horicon High in 1963.
After high school, mom entered the workforce, working in the Personnel Department of Mayville Metal Products. Still, 45 years after she left MMP, mom could recite (from memory) timeclock numbers with absolute accuracy, it was a point of pride.
At some point, she met our dad, Glenn, and after a brief courtship, were married July 20, 1968, at Zion Lutheran Church in Burnett. Mom would comment that on their first anniversary, they watched man walking on the moon, while enjoying (a slightly stale) piece of their wedding cake.
5 years later, mom and dad welcomed their first son, Todd. Looking at the photos, mom beamed, it was a great moment. Another 5 years, and her son Neil was born. Again, no less excitement on her face.
To understand our mom, she was a lover of the written word, music, and art. She had favorites, and it was in those times when she shared that love is what we’ll remember most. Vacuuming the floors to The Buddy Holly Story, introducing Todd and Neil to MAD magazine, and the paintings of Norman Rockwell.
She was a voracious reader and loved solving Cryptograms (those hard puzzles in the paper everyone skips to do the crossword instead). She enjoyed the writing of housewife-turned-novelist Erma Bombeck. It was no thing to watch her breeze through 7+ books a month.
In the mid 80’s she took over the leadership of the Zion Lutheran Junior and Senior Choirs. It was a creative outlet for her and her group. She would lead the choir through the better part of the Nineties before stepping down.
Mom went her in sleep. Lost in a dream that was too good to wake up from. We should all be as lucky.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruth and husband Glenn.
Mary is survived by her sister Kristine Hennig, sons Todd and Neil (Robin) Hundt, and grandchildren Finnley and Lincoln.
