Marvin William Alsum, age 83 of Randolph passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Waupun Memorial Hospital with family at his side.
Marvin was born on December 22, 1939, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the son of Harvey and Elizabeth (Huizenga) Alsum. He was a graduate of Randolph High School, class of 1957. After graduating, Marvin went on to work for Alsum Plumbing and Heating in Randolph. He was united in marriage to Joann Hoffman on April 1, 1960, at the First Randolph Christian Reformed Church in East Friesland. In 1963, Marvin and Joann bought a farm in the rural Randolph area which they called home for nearly 40 years. After retiring from farming, Marvin was employed at Alsum Produce for 20 years. He was a very active and dedicated member of the First Randolph Christian Reformed Church and a strong supporter of the Randolph Christian School. Marvin will be remembered as a fun man, who had a great sense of humor. He was a very selfless person, always putting others before himself.
Marvin is survived by his wife Joann Alsum; his four children, Loretta (Terry) Douma of Waupun, Dale (Janene) Alsum of Trego, WI, Denise Alsum of Oakdale, MN, and Diane (Rob) Krommendyk of Orange City, IA; grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda) Douma, Justin Marvin Douma, Lucas Douma, Elizabeth Glick, Sophie Alsum, Noah Krommendyk, Chloe Krommendyk, and Isaac William Krommendyk; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Douma, Adaline Douma, Alaina Glick, Abigail Glick, and Olivia Glick; sister, Doreen (Nick) Hengeveld; brother, Norm (Ruth) Alsum; sister-in-law, Cora (Brian) Hemp; brother-in-law, Ron (Harriet) Hoffman. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Elizabeth Alsum; brothers, Gerald (Jen) Alsum, Bernie (Gladys) Alsum, Don Alsum, and Ken (Myrna) Alsum; sisters-in-law, Tena (Bill) Dykstra, Agnes (Ed) Westra, Caroline (Norman) Heeringa, and Eleanor Hoffman; brothers-in-law, Jake (Margie) Hoffman, John (Evelyn) Hoffman, Carl (Muriel) Hoffman, and Melvin (Alice) Hoffman.
A visitation will be held at East Friesland New Covenant Church, N8879 East Friesland Road, Randolph, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023, and on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at church with Pastor Stephen Robbins officiating. Burial will take place at Friesland Cemetery.
Memorials may be established in Marvin’s name to the Randolph Christian School, 457 Second St, Randolph, WI 53956.
