Marjorie Ellyn Aalpoel

June 18, 1931 — April 17, 2020

Marjorie Aalpoel, age 88, Brandon was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, April 17, 2020, from her home in Brandon.

Marjorie was born on June 18, 1931, in the town of Metomen, to Edward and Nellie (Westerbeke) Daane as the youngest of 6. She was married on May 20, 1948, to Edward Aalpoel at Alto Christian Reformed Church and they celebrated sixty years of marriage in 2008, prior to his death in that same year. Together, they farmed in the Waupun area until moving back to her parents’ former home in Brandon. Besides farming, she was a stay-at-home mother but also held various jobs throughout her life, including working at Joan’s Photo, Marie’s Coffee Shop, the Henhouse and the Brandon School. She loved her job at the school and many will remember her as a “lunch lady” for more than 35 years until she retired from the school at the age of 78. Marjorie loved all the children and knew most everyone passing her lunch counter by name, following their lives until she was seeing their children also pass her lunch counter. She was known for riding her bike around town and seeing her out and about initially with winter passed was a harbinger of spring, much like seeing the first robin. Marjorie made personal connections with all she met, whether knowing you for years or just meeting you, and was able to recall details of lives and family connections until shortly before her death. Her love for her family was apparent in her concern for the details of their lives and in her inclusion of them in her prayers up until her final hours. She was looking forward to being a great-great-grandmother soon. Marjorie was able to be surrounded by many of those she loved and those who loved her at her death. As a member of First Reformed Church of Waupun for many years, she was honored to serve her Lord there as a Sunday school teacher as well as student, Ladies Guild member and Prayer Chain Warrior.

Marjorie is survived by her four children, Nanci (Rich) Davies, Lynda Harmsen, both of Brandon, Brian (Linda) Aalpoel of Neenah, and Renae (K.C.) Schuler of New London; twelve grandchildren, Troy Davies, Jamison (Tawnya) Davies, Jessica (Ben) Geisthardt, Heather (Mike) Wegner, Andrea (Joe) Megna, Melissa (Jared) Hoinacki, Amanda, Sara and Alison Aalpoel, Aaron, Matthew and Rachel Schuler; thirteen great-grandchildren, Jacob and Taylor Davies, Bella, Dawson and Donovan Geisthardt, Nicholas (Erin) Moon, Alexandra (Jesse) Tipton, Alissabeth (Joe) Nolan, Adrianna and Zachary Wegner, Chase, Macie and Jack Hoinacki; as well as a sister-in-law, Helen Aalpoel; beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; a son-in-law, Larry Hartgerink; a grandson, Nathan Schuler; five siblings, Willis (Jennie) Daane, Sylvia (Wilbert) Respalje, Evelyn (John) Tobak, Dorothy (Rudolph) Tellinghuisen and Jeanette (Henry) Boerson; siblings-in-law, Henrietta (Reuben) Schouten, Johanna Aalpoel and John Aalpoel.

A committal service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at Brandon Cemetery with Pastor Barry Lang officiating.

She was extremely proud she was able to still memorize well into her old age these words:

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39
