Kenneth Lee Johannes was born July 14, 1927, to Aubrey and Tena (Vande Berg) Johannes in Fond du Lac County, WI. Ken passed away peacefully at the Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, May 25, 2020.

On October 23, 1948, he married Fern Mae Braunschweig at First Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Waupun their entire married life. They were blessed with 69 years of marriage. Ken was employed in the shoe business all of his life. First at Mid-State Shoe Co. as a foreman for 20 years. Then in 1967, he became employed as a superintendent for 19 years at Mondl Manufacturing in Oshkosh. Later, he was employed by Weyenberg Shoe Company in Beaver Dam from which he retired.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun where he served on the Church Council and was Church Treasurer for several years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Christian Home for 6 years, and for 14 years on the Board of the Rock River Country Club, where was an active member for many years. Ken proudly served his country in WWII as a U.S. Navy Seaman. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his family; golfing ,traveling and fishing with Fern; helping others; hunting; and, get-togethers with family and friends.

Ken will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Deborah Sauer of Waupun and Linda (Russ) Roberts of Schofield, WI; four grandchildren, Matthew Sauer, Jennifer (Tony) Hahn, Brian Vullings and Christopher Vullings (Sara Zimmermann); three great-grandchildren, Landon Christopher Vullings, Kara Mae Hahn and Kent Alan Hahn; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern in December of 2016; three brothers, Alois, Donald and Wayne (Joe) Johannes; three sisters-in-law, Wava, Maralene and Ramona; other relatives and friends.

A private family graveside service will be held at Forest Mound Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Care WI, especially, Tiffany, Ashley and Karen; the staff of Christian Family Solutions, especially Julianne, Joanne, Jane and Diane; Agnesian Hospice, especially Kristy, Emily B., Emily and coworkers that cared for and supported Dad; Agnesian Waupun Clinic, especially Dr. Richard McMahon and Sandy for their wonderful care throughout the years; the kind, compassionate staff at the Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center that cared for Dad the last three weeks of his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be made to charities of Ken’s choice.
