Jean I. Karns, aged 89, passed away on Friday July 31, 2020, at North Terrace Assisted Living at Markesan Resident Home.
Jean was born on March 20, 1931, the daughter of Stephen and Eleanor (Hausmann) Zauner in Milwaukee. She married Marvin E. Karns on November 26, 1949, in Milwaukee. Jean loved her home and her gardens. She was a wonderful quilter, rug hooker, and knitter. She enjoyed reading and also loved to play cards. Jean was an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Markesan.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Kristine (Thomas) Nowak, her sister Louise, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her two sons, James and Thomas, and her three sisters, Gertrude, Mazie and Mildred.
A funeral service for Jean will be held 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 7, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 65 West Main Street, Markesan with Pastor Jason Jobs officiating. Private burial will take place at Markesan Memorial Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established to St. Johns’ Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank Agnesian Hospice and the staff at Markesan Resident Home for taking such wonderful care of Jean.
