Jan Phillip Kemmann passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017.
SGT Jan Phillip Kemmann was born on April 8, 1993, in Wuppertal, Germany. At the age of 3, his family moved to the Mequon area where Jan graduated from Homestead High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army on August 14, 2012, as a 68W Combat Medic. Jan served as a Combat Medic with the 512th Military Police Company, 92nd Military Police Battalion in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri from 2013-2016. From 2016-2017, he served with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion, 14 th Infantry Regiment, Fort Drum, NY. His awards and medals consist of the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Gold German Proficiency Badge, Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal (2), The Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and the Army Service Ribbon.
Jan married Megan Kok on August 2, 2013. They had two beautiful children, Liam and Nora Kemmann. Jan was an incredible husband, father, friend, and soldier. He was well known for his great work ethic and his passion for helping others. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to help anyone. In his free time, he enjoyed building furniture, fixing his car, skiing, reading, and most of all spending time with his family.
Jan is survived by his wife, Megan; two children, Liam and Nora Kemmann; parents, Volker (Birgit) Kemmann; 4 siblings, Lars (Emily) Kemmann, Christopher (Carolyn) Kemmann and their children, Kaitlyn and Kyle, Amelie Kemmann and Gunilla Kemmann; paternal grandfather, Hans Kemmann; father-in-law, Stu Kok of Randolph; mother-in-law, Dawn (Brian) Frankovis of Sheboygan; brothers-in-law, Jory (Torre ) Kok and Brennon (Jordyn) Kok and their son, Elijah; a sister-in-law, Maylee Kok; grandparents-in-law, Ron (Joyce) Kok of Randolph and Clinton (Sylvia) Smith of Waupun; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thorsten Kemmann; paternal grandmother, Lydia Kemmann; maternal grandparents, Ernst-Wilhelm (Ursel) Hilge.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Living Hope Community Church, 740 West State Street, Fox Lake.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Living Hope Community Church. Burial will follow at Friesland Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Jan’s name.
