James "Missouri" Dennie Smith Sr.

James Dennie Smith Sr., age 82 of Markesan, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Whispering Pines Nursing Home in Ripon.

Jim was born on April 19, 1938, in Kidder, MO, a son of Lafayette “LD” and Mamie (Nichols) Smith. On July 8, 2004, he was united in marriage to Linda (Gehrke) Dochnahl in Beaver Dam, WI. Jim moved from Missouri to Wisconsin to pursue his passion of farming. He enjoyed his hobby farms and horses. Jim also worked for the Department of Corrections as a correctional sergeant for over 30 years. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beaver Dam.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda of Markesan; his children, Polly (Dan) Midura of Little Rock, AR, JD Smith Jr. of Oshkosh, Monty (Stacy) Wellens of North Fond du Lac, Josh (Sarah) Ott of Oakfield, Susan (Thomas) Campbell of Ripon, Chad (LouAnn) Dochnahl of Malone and Kipp (Brandy) Dochnahl of Fayetteville, NC; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy (Dean) Bowers of Hamilton, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Elmo, Louise, Nadine, Virginia, Betty and Verna.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020, from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun.

A funeral service for Jim will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 28, 2020, at Kohls Community Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Wendt officiating.

A memorial fund has been established in Jim's name.
