James Lee Talma, age 79 of Markesan, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with family at his side. Jim was born on October 23, 1942, in Fond du Lac, WI, son of John and Christina (Smit) Talma. He graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1961. Jim entered into service with the U.S. Army and served from 1961-1964. He was united in marriage to Carole Welk on November 20, 1965, at Zion Evangelical United Brethren in Markesan. Jim was employed with Speed Queen in Ripon for 44 years. He was a hard-working dedicated family man who enjoyed family gatherings, sporting events with the grandchildren and children, from elementary through college. Jim enjoyed spending time in the garden tending to his tomato plants and caring for the grand pets when the family went on vacation. He loved the great outdoors; you would see him walking every day. Jim was very proud to have completed the ½ marathon in Green Bay at the age of 73. He was an active member of American Legion Abendroth-Connolly Post 282 of Markesan, Wisconsin. Jim was Sergeant at Arms for the Post and was a member for 52 years and member of Markesan United Methodist Church. James is survived by his loving wife, Carole of 56 years; four children, David (Jennifer) Talma of West Bend, LoriAnn (Dan) Williams of Omro, LuAnn (Jim) Vielbaum of Jackson, Curt (Olivia) Talma of Markesan; six grandchildren, Kyle Talma, Lindsey Talma, Shelby Williams, Chris Vielbaum, Nicholas Talma and Jack Talma; sisters, Louise Taylor and Wilma Mitchell; brother-in-law, John Haima; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elsie Haima; infant sister, Helen Mae; brother-in-law, Jackson Taylor. Visitation for Jim will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Markesan United Methodist Church, 74 East Catherine Street, Markesan. A funeral service for Jim will follow at 11:00 a.m. at church with burial to follow at Markesan memorial Cemetery.
