James "Jim" Peter Paul Kolins, a man of great heart and unwavering spirit, was born on November 19, 1942, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. After a life marked by service and love, Jim passed away on December 27, 2024, at Randolph Health Services, surrounded by his family.
Jim proudly served in the Air Force from 1961 to 1969, demonstrating his love for his country and his willingness to stand by those in need. He traveled across the U.S. and spent cherished moments in Spain, embracing the beauty and culture around him. On September 12, 1986, he was united in marriage to Debra Deichsel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For many years, Jim brought joy and safety to countless children as he drove a school bus, nurturing young minds and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Jim was a man of diverse interests and passions. He found solace and inspiration in medieval music and often shared his love for singing as a devoted member of the church choir. A true computer enthusiast, he delved into the depths of technology with eagerness and curiosity. His thirst for knowledge led him to explore philosophy and astronomy. He often would immerse himself in the captivating realms created by his favorite science fiction author, Robert Heinlein. Additionally, Jim had a deep appreciation for old cars and motorcycles. In his later years Jim was also a member of the exercise club at the Senior Center. One of Jim's proudest accomplishments was his steadfast commitment to Alcoholics Anonymous, where he supported and inspired others as he celebrated 42 years of sobriety.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Debra Kolins; children, Steven (Sally) Kolins, Scott Kolins and Jeremy (Heather) Jensen; grandchildren, Katarina, Benjamin, Alexander and Riley Kolins, Hailey and Jayden Jensen, Lily Owen-Winchester and Wolf Wuethrich; ex-wife, Eileen F. Rozumialski, daughter in law, Kim Gant-Kolins and the Pilipishen family. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his adoptive mother, Pearl Meyers neé Linda, Kolins; adoptive fathers, Joseph Kolins, Ronald Ransom and Arnold Meyers; in laws, Fern and Raymond Hahn, Jerold Deichsel, Mark Deichsel, Grandma and Grandpa Beck. He was further preceded by numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
A visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun, WI 53963.
A memorial service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Kohls Community Funeral Home with Military Honors provided by Waupun Post 210 American Legion.
