Garret Daniel Wiersma

Garret Daniel Wiersma, age 91 of Randolph, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Prairie Ridge Health Hospital in Columbus.

Garret, the son of Dan and Janet (Vander Galien) Wiersma, was born on September 27, 1932, in Fox Lake, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Vander Meulen on December 7, 1951, at the First Reformed Church in Randolph. Garret served in the Navy (1952 – 1956) on the U.S.S. Frybarger DEC-705. Garret was employed as an electrician for 50 years and co-owner of Wiersma Electric. He was an active member of church all his life. He served as member of the building committee, usher, deacon, and cadet counselor. After retiring from work, he went on mission trips to Nicaragua and Ecuador through Prince of Peace. He loved to work keeping the school and medical clinic in Guayaquil, Ecuador safe and functional. Garret was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He took hunting trips to Alaska, Colorado, South Dakota and Canada. Garret loved fishing, particularly musky and walleye fishing. Garret and Evelyn traveled extensively including 3 World Expos, 3 trips to Alaska, 2 trips to Africa, 3 trips to China, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Panama Canal, Hawaii and many other states. Garret was an avid reader and read many books every week.  Garret loved to help and serve others and did so in many ways.

Garret is survived by his daughter, Debra (Ken) Menge and son, Gary (Marge) Wiersma; grandchildren, Nicole Menge, Nikolaus Wiersma, Garret K. Wiersma, Yuko (Elijah) Wiersma Van Zandt; two great grandchildren, Emi and Ren Wiersma Van Zandt; brother, Dan (Patricia) Wiersma, sisters, Wilma (Gordan) Vander Velde, Geraldine (Arnold) Dykstra, Ethel (Richard) Salzman, and Darlene Minnema; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Wiersma in December of 2022.

A memorial service for Garret will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the First Reformed Church, 406 South High Street, Randolph, WI with Pastor Luke Baehr officiating. Military honors will be provided by Randolph VFW Post 9510 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any monetary contributions be sent to Randolph Christian School, 457 Second Street, Randolph, WI 53956.
