Frances Elaine Riel

Frances Elaine Riel, age 92, of Fox Lake, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Anchor Community in Fox Lake.

Frances was born on July 6, 1931, daughter of George and Violet (Whipple) Witthun. She was united in marriage to Marvin Riel on July 28, 1950. Frances was a woman of many talents. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint.  Most of all she loved sewing, for many years she would sew quilt tops for Immanuel Lutheran Church. Frances provided selfless care throughout her life.  She was a warm, inviting and kind woman that took in others as her own. Frances was known for her collection of owls and snowmen and has always loved semi-trucks and tending to her garden.

Frances is survived by her six children, David (Lois) Riel, Rosemary Wapneski, Kevin Riel, Michael Riel, Paul (Sally) Riel and Keith (Jennifer) Riel; 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Vande Zande; brother-in-law, Clifford Otte and sister-in-law, Joyce Riel; further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997; grandson, Nicolous Riel; great grandson in infancy; daughter-in-law, Betty Riel; son-in-law, Jan Wapneski; sisters, Bernice (Lester) Vande Berg and Hazel (Chris) Vande Berg; brother-in-law, Erwin Vande Zande; further preceded in death by her in-laws.

A visitation will from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Kohls Funeral Home 405 West Main Street, Waupun, WI

A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m with Chaplain Laura Wessels officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the family in memory of Frances.
