Fern Johannes, age 89 of Waupun, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Marvin’s Manor.
Fern Mae Johannes was born on September 30, 1928, to August and Amanda (Schultz) Braunschweig in the town of Trenton in Dodge County, WI. On October 23, 1948, she married Kenneth Lee Johannes at First Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Waupun their entire married life. They were blessed with 69 years of marriage. Fern was employed at Mid-State Shoe Company as a secretary for 11 years; the National Bank for 7 years; and, retired from Alto Dairy after working 11 years as a receptionist and payroll clerk. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun where she was active in its Ladies Circle.
As a member of Rock River Country Club in Waupun, she enjoyed participating in the Philly Derbies and many social get-togethers. Fern was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her family, helping others, traveling and fishing with Ken, and, get-togethers with family and friends.
Fern will be greatly missed by: her husband, Kenneth Johannes of Waupun; two daughters, Deborah Sauer of Waupun and Linda (Russ) Roberts of Schofield, WI; four grandchildren, Matthew Sauer, Jennifer (Tony) Hahn, Brian Vullings (girlfriend, Heather Kelch) and Christopher Vullings (girlfriend, Sara Zimmerman); great-grandchildren, Landon Vullings, Kara Mae Hahn and Kent Alan Hahn; a brother, Robert Braunschweig of MO; a sister-in-law, Margie Braunschweig of CA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Frank, Percy, Roy, Art, August Jr., Harvey, Wallace and William; two sisters, Velma and Alice.
Visitation for Fern will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 525 West Main Street, Waupun.
A memorial service for Fern will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Nicla Officiating.
We especially want to thank the staff of Marvin’s Manor, Waupun, who cared for Fern as they would their own family member. We greatly appreciate the love and concern you showed to both Mom and Dad.
A special thank you is extended to the Agnesian Hospice – the many nurses and, Kim, mom’s CNA, for making her last months the best they could be.
