Edith Nannenga, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in Randolph. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Second Christian Reformed Church, 418 Tamarack Street, Randolph with Pastor Keith Buist officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at church and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Randolph Cemetery.
Edith was born to John and Kate (Sjaarda) Steensma on May 20, 1932 in Sanborn, Iowa. She attended Western Christian High School and Calvin College, where she earned a teaching degree. She taught elementary education at DeMotte Christian School in DeMotte, Indiana. She met the love of her life, Dan Nannenga, shortly after he returned from his Army duties and they were married on December 28 th , 1954. After her marriage, her career involved raising four daughters. She was also asked to return to teaching to set up the first kindergarten program at DeMotte Christian School, which she did. Edith and Dan moved to Wisconsin in 1972, where Edith stayed active in their church and the community – participating in the Lydia Society, church choir and teaching Sunday School. She also led a Bible Study at the Continental Manor for many years. She and Dan shared a love for their daughters and sons-in-law, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. Edith loved music and passed that love to her children and grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 62 years, Dan Nannenga; her children Alene (Mike) Orr of Pocatello, Idaho; Diane (Jim) Kok of Randolph, WI; Lavonne (Jim) Bolkema of Sioux Center Iowa; and Judy (Larry) Offerman of Glenwood City, WI; 8 grandchildren – Hailey (Dusty) Clark (children - Tucker, Kimber, Kade); Kara (Kevin) Brady (son - Dawson); David (Heidi) Kok (son – Liam); Amy (Eric) Putman (children Brayden and Aly); Janelle (Tyler) VanderZwaag; Nathan Bolkema; Holly (Dave) Lotharius; and Auri Offerman; her sister Cynthia Steensma, and brothers- and sisters-in-law Martina Hoffman, Robert (Mildred) Nannenga, Andrew (Sharon) Nannenga, Donald Nannenga, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Bernard (Sadie) Steensma, Wineta Steensma, Henry (Jeanette) Steensma, and Nicholas (Lavina) Steensma, and brothers- and sisters-in-law Verna (Jack) Heidenreich, George (Rose) Nannenga, Arthur Andrew Nannenga, Jean Nannenga, Simon (Ethel) Nannenga, Arthur (Peggy) Nannenga, Dale Hoffman, and Charles Nannenga.
