Doris Vande Streek, age 77 of Beaver Dam, formerly of Randolph, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at the Barrett House in Markesan.
Doris was born on May 9, 1940, in Green Lake County, the daughter of John and Jeannette (Levey) Alsum. Doris attended the East Friesland Christian School, then transferred to the Randolph public schools, where she graduated from high school. Always a lover of music, she began piano lessons in grade school. When she was in the 7th grade, she started playing for the First Christian Reformed Church in East Friesland on Sunday mornings (a job she held for 20 years!) She grew in expertise over the years as she continued taking lessons at the Wisconsin and Wayland Academies. She also took extensive course work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Doris also worked as a choral music teacher in the Waupun Christian Grade School for eight years, where she also directed two choirs and taught piano. Doris played at the Fox Lake Presbyterian Church before she began her work at the Cambria First Presbyterian Church in the early 1990's. Doris was united in marriage to Wilbert "Will" Vande Streek on July 1, 1960. She spent many years helping her husband on the farm and most of her time was given to music, choir, piano and organ.
She is survived by her three children; Joel (Laurie) Vande Streek of Markesan, Jay (Elizabeth) Vande Streek of FL and Jena (Jeffrey) Schwartz of Beaver Dam; 10 grandchildren; Myles (Michele) Vande Streek, Bridget (Daniel) Vredevelde, Aaron (Laura) Baggett, Renee (Dan Strelow) Vande Streek, Jesse Schwartz, Jaelee Schwartz, Jagen Schwartz and Jedd Schwartz, Benjamin Broennimann and Morgan Broennimann; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Gerhardt (Wilma) Alsum; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Vande Streek of Waupun and Nancy Vande Streek of Fox Lake; brother-in-law, Bernard "Butch" (Wanda) Vande Streek of Waupun.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001; sisters, Winnie (Donald) Meenk and Susann Cupery; brothers-in-law Conrad Vande Streek and Norman Vande Streek.
A private funeral service will be held.
