Dorene Kay Wohlferd, 66, of Markesan, WI, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday April 9th, 2017, at Markesan Resident Home.
Dorene was born January 16th, 1951, in Madison, WI, to Howard and Kathryn (Bauer) Morse. She was a resident of Madison, WI thru her childhood. On July 4th, 1970 she was united in marriage to Alan Wohlferd prior to his deployment in the US Army. They lived in many states including AL, TX, IL, until settling back in WI. In recent years they built their dream home at Green Lake and resided there in retirement.
She graduated from Madison East High School in 1969 and was proud of her involvement in the National Honor Society, Band, and French Club. Dorene then attended University of Wisconsin Madison, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, El Paso Technical School, Northern Illinois University, and Madison Area Technical College. She worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Health and Family Services, and Department of Administration, until her retirement in 2010, with 34 years of state civil service.
She was a volunteer secretary and active member of the West Shore Womens Group, and enjoyed spending time at their home near Green Lake, WI. Dorene enjoyed cross-stich, reading, flowers, watching movies, cooking, and her cat Winnie. She was an avid Packer fan, and she was very proud tell everyone stories about her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Alan Wohlferd of Markesan; children, Elliott (Jessica) Wohlferd of Grapevine, TX, Hillary (Jason) Losen of Mukwonago, WI, Clark (Emily) Wohlferd of Cold Spring Harbor, NY; grandchildren, Nicholas Wohlferd, Aubree Wohlferd, Jacob Losen, Evelyn Losen, Marian Losen, Harper Wohlferd, Quinn Wohlferd, and Graham Wohlferd; brothers, Dean (Victoria Straughn) Morse, and David (Phyllis) Morse; brothers-in-law, Mark (Carol) Tiedeman, Paul (Jeanne) Tiedeman; sister-in-law Joyce Tiedeman; and many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a step-father, Alfred Hathaway; brother-in-law, James Tiedeman, many aunts and uncles, and a grandson, Sawyer Losen.
Friends may call from 10a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Dennis Richards will officiate.
A celebration of Dorene’s life will be held at 12 P.M., on Thursday, April 13th, in Markesan WI, Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan.
Inurnment and committal service will take place at 10 A.M., Friday, April 14th, at Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel in Monona, WI.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Markesan Resident Home, who made Dorene’s rehab stay comfortable, as well as Home Health Nurse Cindy. With a special thank you to friends and family for their encouragement of Dorene thru cards, letters, phone calls, emails, and visits. She will be dearly missed.
