Donna Mae Scheier

Donna Mae Scheier, age 89 of Kingston, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Barrett House in Markesan.

Donna was born on May 22, 1934, the daughter of Gustav and Margaret Schwark. In her youth she enjoyed living on the family farm, ice boat racing on Big Green, working at Fabrico and graduated from Green Lake High School in 1952. Donna then married Lavern Scheier in 1952 and raised a family of eight children. As a family each summer they raised a brood of turkey ducks and leghorns to dressout and sell. Donna also played the accordion at many community functions.  She drove the Markesan school bus for 17 years and enjoyed competing in the Wisconsin bus rodeo and did very well.  Donna was the librarian at the Kingston Mill Pond Library for 18 years. Donna was employed at PMI, Markesan preceding her retirement. Donna was a member of the Kingston Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Kingston United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and played the organ for many years. Donna’s talents were many, she was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She made quilts for each child, grandchild, great and great great-grandchild. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, woodworking and tending to her flower gardens.  Donna was dedicated to her family, never forgot to send birthday cards and got great pleasure out of spending time with family during the holidays and other celebrations.

Donna is survived by her two sons, Ronald (Sombatt) and Thomas (Kathy) Scheier, two daughters, Cindy Galow and Debra (Jim) Palmer; 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren; daughters-in-laws, Kathy and Denise Scheier; further survived by nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern Scheier; her children, Bonnie Scheier, John Scheier, Brian Scheier and Andrew Scheier; brothers, David, Wayne, and Daniel Schwark; grandson, Matt Scheier; son-in-law, Randy Galow.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October, 13, 2023, at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan, WI.

A memorial service will follow at 11: 00 a.m. at Markesan Community Funeral Home with Pastor Lisa Gilbert.  Inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Kingston Mill Pond Library.
