Darlene Frances (Fran) De Vries, age 84, passed away on July 14, 2024, in Randolph, WI with family by her side. She was born May 26, 1940 at home on a farm outside of Cambria. She was the daughter of John and Minnie (Buwalda) Evers.
Fran graduated in 1958 from Cambria High School. Following graduation, she worked at Rockwell where she met her husband, Harold De Vries. They were united in marriage on December 2, 1961, and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary together last year. Together they had 4 children, Marla (Greg) Wedel, Faye (Dan) Wells, Rhonda (Steve) Pfeffer, and Harlyn De Vries.
Fran worked at multiple jobs throughout the years. For over 30 years, she was the cook for the Randolph School District. She was also a janitor at the Cambria bank, an Avon Sales Consultant, and a cook for Randolph Kiwanis.
Fran had a passion for baking and cooking and even did some catering on the side. Family gatherings always took place at her home where she would spoil everyone with stromboli and cookies, bars, ice cream cakes, and sweets galore.
Fran’s life passion was children’s ministries. She was dedicated to introducing the children of the community to Jesus. She did this through Child Evangelism Ministries, Good News Club, and 5 Day Club. Fran was a lifetime member of the 2nd Christian Reformed Church, and served with the Ladies Aid Society and Vacation Bible School.
She will be remembered for her selfless generosity, friendliness to all, providing consistent care and support for her family, hosting coffee hours and annual Labor Day cookouts for family and friends, gifting thoughtful homemade crafts, and, above all, faithfully following and loving God.
Fran is survived by her 3 daughters and their spouses; 9 grandchildren - Jennifer (Diego), Mitchell (Jessa), Kelsey (Scott), Heidi (Jake), Rachel, Adam, Annette (Derek), Julia (Isaac), and Kaylin; 7 great-grandsons (with more on the way!) - Jahmari, Leo, Carter, Elias, Nolan, Cohen and Oliver; brother John (Jane) Evers, and brother-in-law Wayne Rahn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and their spouses, husband Harold De Vries, and their son Harlyn (1996).
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship, 2nd Christian Reformed Church, or a memorial of your choice.
