Carl Wegner

Carl David Wegner, age 70 of Markesan, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, April 15, 2019.

Carl was born on February 19, 1949, in Waukesha County, a son of Raymond and Margarite (Moll) Wegner. On May 15, 1971, he was united in marriage to Jane Semrow at St. James Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls. In 1974, Carl and Jane moved to a farm outside of Markesan and started Wegner Automotive in 1975. He had a passion for engines and racing from a young age, assembling and disassembling his first engine at 14 in his parent’s basement. Carl was an innovator, always seeking ways to make engines more affordable and looking out for short track racing in Wisconsin. He traveled all across the U.S. and overseas for the business but traveling with his family was a favorite pastime, especially vacationing in Hawaii. Carl enjoyed racing, traveling and going for rides in his 1957 Chevy with his wife and beloved dog, Tootsie. He always looked out for his family and his employees, making sure everyone was taken care of.

Carl is survived by his wife, Jane of Markesan; a son, Casey (Amber) Wegner of Princeton; a daughter, Amanda Yost of Markesan; three grandchildren, Bryson, Amaya and Kian; further survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, George (Dorothy) Semrow; two brothers, Barry Wegner and Michael Wegner.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan and on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 1211 West Main Street, Princeton.

A funeral mass for Carl will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at St. John’s Catholic Church with close friend, Father Dale Grubba officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wegner family, to be decided at a later date.
