Betty Jane Mathweg

Betty Jane Mathweg, age 91, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at The Barrett House in Markesan.

Betty was born on December 24, 1925 in Kohler, a daughter of Arthur and Bernice (Prahl) Sorenson. In 1936 Arthur passed away and Bernice then married Edward Piotraschke. Betty was united in marriage to Fred Mathweg on December 10, 1949, in Markesan, WI. Betty loved the Game Show Network and traveling with her husband, playing bingo and watching the Jewelry Television Network. She was known for her plastic canvas projects. She spent a lot of time making angels and crosses for family and friends. Family meant everything to Betty, she enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family. Betty was very proud of her brother and husband during the World War II. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Betty is survived by her daughter Jana Vande Brink of Markesan; four grandchildren, Jon (Pam) Vande Brink of Markesan; Matthew (De Ana) Vande Brink of Ripon, Jennifer (Gavin) Dudzinski of Ripon and Anne Horne of Markesan; six great-grandchildren, Kara, Mara and Madi Vande Brink, Carter and Caleb Vande Brink and Declan Dudzinski (Shawn); son-in-law, Tom Horne; godson Michael Dubberstein; cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Lana Horne; brother Leroy (Wanna Mae) Sorenson; brother-in-law Edward (Mildred) Draeger.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 P.M. on November 1, 2017, at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at 6:00 P.M. at Markesan Community Funeral Home, with Pastor Jason Jobs officiating. Family has invited you all to gather for a light meal following the service. Inurnment will be held in the Markesan Memorial Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established in Betty's name.
