Bertha Bylsma, age 97 of Randolph, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Randolph Health Services.
Bertha was born on November 13, 1926, in Randolph, the daughter of Lambert and Jennie (Stiemsma) Alsum. She was united in marriage to Louis Bylsma on October 4, 1951. Bertha was a loving and extremely kind woman who loved the Lord, she was known as the “Family Prayer Warrior”. She always had an encouraging word to say and served God with humbleness and loved her family. She also was a giving person who would give her last and make no mention about it. Bertha worked various jobs that she enjoyed. She served the First Reformed Church as custodian, she also worked at Continental Manor while continuing her role as homemaker. Her biggest most rewarding and sometimes challenging role in life was being the mother of her four boys. Bertha was a member of the First Reformed Church in Randolph, Ladies Guild and the women’s Bible study group.
Bertha is survived by her three sons; Jim (Pam) of Randolph, Richard (Debra) of Middlebury, IN, and Larry (Doreen) of Friesland; daughter-in-law, Trish Bylsma of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren; Jamie (John) Weaver, Jodi (Jason) Wickstrom, Jonathan Bylsma, Andrew (Meaghan) Bylsma, Michael (Malinda) Bylsma, Chelsie (Tyler) Stocker, Brittany (Jeff) Raymond, and Spencer Bylsma; thirteen great-grandchildren, Jason and Johannah Weaver; Cooper Wickstrom; Jackson, Tenley, Paisley and Brynley Stocker, Ryker and Raelyn Raymond; Ellis and Asher Bylsma, Beau and Hudson Bylsma; four step-grandchildren, Sara Grump, Emily (Joe) Grace, Katherine (Sagar) Sonar, Jennifer Brinley (Gary Vollink); six step great-grandchildren, Ben, Natalie, Isaiah and Abigail Grace; Marielle and Alistair Sonar; She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Bylsma in 2011; son, David Bylsma in 2017; brother, Newton Alsum and sister-in-law, Theresa Alsum; sister-in-law, Theresa Westra and brother-in-law, Norman Westra.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024, at First Reformed Church, 406 High Street, Randolph, with Pastor Luke Baehr officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at church on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m., and on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
A memorial fund has been established for the First Reformed Church and Randolph Christian School.
