Evelyn Ruth Douma

Evelyn Ruth Douma, age 87 of Randolph, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Randolph Health Services Continental Manor.

Evelyn was born on April 14, 1929 in the town of Randolph, a daughter of Rev. John and Anna (De Vries) Voortman. She was a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School. On December 19, 1947 she was united in marriage to Auke Douma in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Evelyn was a waitress at various local business’ including City Lunch in Beaver Dam and Arlin’s Café in Randolph. She was a member of First Randolph Christian Reformed Church and served as a Calvinette leader for many years.

Evelyn is survived by nine children, Diane (Dave) Vande Zande, Glen (Kathy) Douma, Randy (Deb) Douma, Wanda (Mike) Bartz, Leon (Cindy) Douma, Marla Slinger, Janna (Scott) Mittelstaedt, Darrel Douma and Brenda (Larry) Grab; thirty-seven grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; one sister, Grada Rietema; one brother, Sy (Martina) Voortman; in-laws, Betty Voortman; Dorothy Schaalma; Theresa Posthuma; Shirley Douma; Melvin Hoffman; Bessie (Lambert) DeJager; Andrew (Tessie) Douma and Harvey Douma; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Auke; son Larry Douma; grandson Eric; son-in-law, Rich Medema; two sisters, Dorothy (Clarence) Eisenga and Cora Mae (Newton) Eisenga; one brother John Voortman; in-laws, John Schaalma; Carl Posthuma; Gerrit (Marge) Douma; Clarence Douma; Alice Hoffman and good friends, Louis (Julia) Stiemsma.

Visitation for Evelyn will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church, N8876 East Friesland Road, Randolph.

A funeral service for Evelyn will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church. Burial to follow at Friesland Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established to First Randolph Christian Reformed Church.
