Orlin Julius Fietz

Orlin Julius Fietz, age 91 of Waupun, died on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Marvins Manor in Waupun, surrounded by loving family.

Orlin was born on August 13, 1925 in Sauk County, the son of August and Anna (Beckman) Fietz. On November 4, 1947, he was united in marriage to Grace Posthuma at First Christian Reformed Church of Friesland. Orlin was employed with the Schouten Mink Ranch for 33 years. He sang for the United Men of Praise for twenty years. Orlin was a faithful member of Trinity Reformed Church and served as an Elder and a Deacon. Drafted on his eighteenth birthday in 1944, Orlie was proud to serve as a combat veteran of WWII. He was assigned to the 90th Infantry Division as a rifleman in an infantry regiment. Orlie joined his unit in time to cross the Rhine River into Germany in small boats under enemy fire. He and his division then participated in the U.S. 3rd Armies historic sweep dividing Germany in two with VE day finding his regiment in Czechoslovakia linked up with the Russians. He remarked once that he walked the entire distance and never slept under a roof the whole drive. Orlie was awarded the Combat Infantrymans Badge, 2 Battle Stars and other decorations. After VE day Orlie served as a an MP until his discharge in July of 1946.

Orlin is survived by, five daughters; Cheryl (Dennis) Schouten, Waupun, Sandy (Bob) Huecker, Lomira, Charlene (Rich) Kamphuis, Waupun, Julie Fietz of Ca., and Carla (Randy) Landaal, Waupun; 15 grandchildren, Jon (Tara) Schouten, Jeff (Cindy) Schouten, Stephanie (Ben) Budzien, Troy (Lisa) Droese, Derek (special friend, Ellisha) Droese, Alicia Notti, Scott (Becky) Kamphuis, Lisa (Darrell) Vande Zande, Melanie (Brad) Wiese, Tara (Brent) Ferris, Ryan (special friend, Katie) Landaal and Eric (special friend, Amanda) Landaal; 18 great-grandchildren; 7 sisters-in-law, Sylvia (Clinton) Smith, Clarine (Ron) Buteyn, Jeanette Tjepkema, Alice, Betty, Jane and Theresa Posthuma; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife in 2011; a great-granddaughter, 7 brothers and 3 sisters.

Visitation for Orlin will be held from 4:00 to 7:oo P.M. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 W. Main Street, Waupun and at the church on Wednesday, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.

Funeral services for Orlin will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Trinity Reformed Church, 521 S. Madison St. Waupun, with Rev. John White officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the Waupun Honor Guard.

A memorial fund has been established in Orlin’s name.
