William Frank Burmeister

William Frank Burmeister, age 88 of Waupun, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

Bill was born on August 20, 1927 in Fond du Lac, WI, a son of William and Lualla (Voight) Burmeister. In 1945 he graduated from Waupun High School and in lieu of accepting a scholarship to play football at UW Madison he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed on a destroyer at Pearl Harbor. On July 2, 1949 he was united in marriage to Joyce Fehr and they continued their life together in Waupun. Bill worked with his father at the Burmeister Blacksmith Shop and served as a volunteer fireman for the city of Waupun. In 1962 he joined the Waupun police force and in 1970 he was promoted to Chief of police and served in this position until his retirement.

Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce; 3 children, Kathleen (Frank) Bellaire of Oshkosh, William (Pat) Burmeister, Jr. of Cincinatti, OH and David (Stacey) Burmeister of Star Prairie; 2 grandchildren, Rebecca (Mike) Kops and Nathan Bresser; 2 great grandchildren, Carson and Madison Kops; a sister, Louise Hoffman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A time of remembrance for Bill will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun. Committal service and military rites will follow at Norwegian Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until the hour of remembrance at the funeral home.
