Adeline Gladys Nitz , age 97, of Markesan passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Markesan Resident Home.
Adeline was born on January 14, 1919 in the town of Shields, Marquette County, the daughter of Emil and Lydia (Hoffmann) Floeter. She was baptized at her home on January 14 and confirmed of her christian faith on April 9, 1933 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kingston, WI. On July 8, 1944 she married Herbert Nitz at Zion Lutheran Church. Adeline worked for the Hugh Miller's in Markesan as a cook and maid for 7 years. While her husband served in WWII she worked in the defense plant at Ripon as well as American Canning Company in canteen until his return home. She also worked at various jobs to supplement their income. Adeline and her husband farmed in the Ripon and Markesan area until they built a home on Welk Road by Little Green Lake where they retired. During her retirement she enjoyed crocheting, china painting, making afghans, gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Adeline always had a large garden and shared her produce with others. She was a wonderful cook and made tasty deserts. Adeline was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Adeline is survived by two daughters, Ardith (Hollis) Hasty of Montrose CO, Beverly (Larry) Kastenschmidt of Ripon and daughter-in-law Maggie Nitz of Markesan; 8 grandchildren, Brian (Kimberly) Kastenschmidt, Doug (Micki) Kastenschmidt, Travis Kastenschmidt, Kent (Jessica) Kastenschmidt, Andrew (Rachel) Nitz, Michael (Heidi) Nitz, Jessica (Jeremy) Nitz-Bieberitz and Pamela (Michael) Miller; 16 great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws Viola Fenske and Doris Zastrow; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; son Gerald Nitz in 2014; grandson William Nitz, four brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 4-7 P.M. at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street and Monday, May 2nd at St. John's Lutheran Church beginning at 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.
A funeral service for Adeline will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 2, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 65 West Catherine Street, Markesan with Rev. Jobs officiating. Burial to follow in the Markesan Memorial Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been directed to St. John’s Sunday School.
