Helen May (Huyck) DeYoung, age 85, passed away at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa on October 18, 2015. She was a long time resident in the Randolph area.
Helen was born September 13, 1930 in Adams County, Wisconsin to Lawrence and Laura (Schmidt) Huyck. Helen worked in various factory settings in Beloit and Beaver Dam before her marriage to John D. DeYoung of Friesland, Wisconsin. They raised their four children in rural Friesland. Helen was a member at First Reformed Church of Friesland. She worked at the diner in Randolph and was locally renowned for her pies. After her husband's death in 1986, Helen became a missionary with the Reformed Church in America, first in Kentucky and then for 10 years at The Other Way Ministries in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After her retirement, she returned to Randolph, Wisconsin. In her last years, she resided with her son, Robert, in McClelland, Iowa.
Helen lived a life of faith and prayer, loving and serving the Lord Jesus Christ who saved her. The Lord used her to help many grow in the Lord through her years of teaching “Good News Club” and Sunday School, through The Other Way Ministries and through her everyday kindness.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: Harold, Leonard and Bill, Sister: Lulabelle Krause, and great granddaughter, Madison.
Survivors include: her children: Robert (Julie) of McClelland, IA and their children, Robert and John; Rickey (Peggy) of Richland, WI and their children, Niki (Geoff) McElhatten, Abby (Joseph) Monteith, Christy, Lindsay, Ashley, Ricky and Luke; Daniel (Doreen) of Randolph, WI and their children, Wesley and Connor; and Gayle (Michael) Polinsky and their children, Jennifer and Bethann of Old Bridge, NJ.; Great grandson: Brayden DeYoung (son of John).
A funeral service for Helen will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, October 23, 2015 at First Reformed Church of Friesland, 107 East Winnebago Street, Friesland with Rev. Rob Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Friesland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 9 A.M. until the time of service.
