Du Wayne Lyle Schelter

Du Wayne Schelter, age 74 of Waupun, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at his home.

Du Wayne Lyle Schelter was born on April 9, 1940, in the town of Trenton, a son of Joseph and Hazel (Cotterill) Schelter. On June 24, 1961, he was united in marriage to Judie Commo in Waupun at the United Methodist Church. Du Wayne worked at Mercury Marine for 42 years. He was a member of the Eagles Club for 40 years, a member of the Waupun Masonic Lodge #48 for 40 years and a shriner of Zor Shrine in Madison. Du Wayne was also a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, White Tail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited and the Schaumburg’s Supper Club bowling team. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, head usher and chairman of the Trustees and other church offices. Du Wayne volunteered for church projects and volksfest. He raced stock cars until 1947 and made a come back in 2011 at the Beaver Dam Raceway. Du Wayne enjoyed racing, hunting, fishing and traveling. His favorite pass times included spending time at the family cabin in Thomahawk, gardening and family gatherings every Christmas and Thanksgiving, He loved spending time with his family and grandkids.

Du Wayne is survived by his three children, Angie (Paul) Federer, Du Wayne (Laura) Schelter and April (Marcus) Cox; Seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and Mackenzie Federer, Morgan, Derrick and Brianna Schelter and Brenden and Bryant Cox; Two great grandchildren, Mila and Isabel; his special friend, Joanie Carlin; a sister, Ginny Hodgson; a sister-in-law, Lavina Schelter; two brothers-in-law, John (Adel) Commo and Ralph Hull; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judie, his in-laws, Celeste (Bernard) Commo; two brothers, Phillip and Joseph Jr. Schelter; a sister, Patricia Graff; a brother and sister in infancy; a sister-in-law, Joan Hull; two brothers-in-law, Clyde Hodgson and Norm Graff; and two nephews, Jim Schelter and Jeff Graff.

A celebration of Du Wayne’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at United Methodist Church, 199 East Jefferson Street, Waupun, with Pastor JD McCarty officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Mound Cemetery.

Du Wayne’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 6, 2015, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun and on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

A memorial fund has been established in Du Wayne’s name.
