Curtis Arthur Bernhagen, of Markesan passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Barrett House in Markesan.
Curtis was born on October 20, 1939 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Francis (Kelm) Bernhagen. Curtis was baptized and confirmed in Manchester, Wisconsin. He attended Manchester grade school and graduated from Markesan High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Elaine Clark on April 20, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Berlin, WI. He was a licensed cheese maker for 30 years and manager of Markesan and Fairwater Cheese Factory. Curtis also worked at various other cheese factories in the area. During his cheese making career he farmed for a number of years. Curtis was the secretary for the Manchester Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as collecting coins.
Curtis is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Carey (Fred) Stillman of New Hampshire; son Andrew (Shelly) Bernhagen of Markesan; three grandchildren, Jesset of Stevens Point, Brayden and Drew Bernhagen both of Markesan; also survived by cousins other relatives and friends.
Curtis is preceded by his parents.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 11 A.M. at St Pauls Lutheran Church, W3377 Main Street, Manchester, with Rev. Michael Plagenz officiating. Burial will follow in the Manchester Cemetery on Proscarian Road.
Curtis’ family will receive relatives and friends at church on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the hour of service.
