Elaine Josephine Novak, age 86 of Markesan, formerly of Brandon and Waupun, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Markesan Resident Home.
Elaine was born on February 24, 1928 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a daughter of Alexander and Gertrude (Kehl) Riviers. She graduated from Brandon High School in the class of 1946. On September 22, 1946 she was united in marriage to Emil Novak. Elaine worked for many years in the restaurant business at South Hills Country Club in Fond du Lac, New Era Restaurant in Fond du Lac, the Welcome Inn in Waupun, a housekeeper at Hotel Waupun and helped clean St. Joseph’s Church and Rectory. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxillary. Elaine was also a member of St. Brendan’s and St. Joseph’s as well as a member of both church’s Altar Society. In her pastime she was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, word searches and listening to polka and inspirational music. Elaine loved to spend time with her family.
Elaine is survived by six children, Herman (Jane) Novak of Arkansas, Larina Wagner of Fond du Lac, Mary Fairbank of Brandon, Gerald Novak of Fond du Lac, Valerie (Richard) Hoefs of Reedsburg and Allen (Candice) Novak of Florida; nine grandchildren; one step grandchild; nine great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Arnold) Grams of Brandon and Nancy Riviers of California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Andrew, James and Thomas Riviers; a sister, Marie McAuly; a daughter, Audrey Novak; a granddaughter, Christa Novak and a grandson, Jeffrey Novak.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun, with Rev. Michael Wild officiating. Committal service to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
Elaine’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Kohls Community Funeral Home and on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.
A memorial fund has been established in Elaine’s name.
