Gladys Haleeta Deyoung

Gladys Haleeta DeYoung, age 83 of Markesan, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.

Gladys was born on October 31, 1931 in the Township of Alto, Wisconsin, daughter of Charles and Henrietta (Hopp) Navis. On November 25, 1949 she was united in marriage to Mike DeYoung in Waupun. She and Mike worked on the family farm until the cows were sold in 1983 then worked as a pharmacy clerk until she retired at the age of 78. Gladys also taught bible class and was a part of the Ladies Guild at Randolph First Reformed Church for many years. She was passionate about baking and loved doing work around the yard. Entertaining was one of her favorite pastimes and she enjoyed being around people.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 65 years, Myron "Mike" DeYoung; three children, Juliene (James) Buenger of Sussex, and their children, Jason (Shawna) Buenger of Sun Prairie and Jeffrey (Melissa) Buenger of Madison; Judy (Jim) Vander Werff of Markesan, and their children, Jeremy Vander Werff of Markesan and Jenna Vander Werff of Middleton; Barb (Bill) Decker of Waupun, and their children, Carrie Decker (Lane LeRoy) of Beaver Dam and Benjamin Decker of Waupun; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Sharon (Dick) Peters of Princeton; a sister-in-law, Ardell Navis of Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Milton Navis and Harvey Navis and a sister, Junice Smits.

A celebration of Gladys' life will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan, with Rev. Gary Zacharias officiating. Cremation will follow with private inurnment at Randolph Cemetery at a later date.

Gladys' family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established in Gladys' name.
