Kenneth A. Zieman, Sr.
Kenneth Albert Zieman, age 92, died peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Golden Living Center, Continental Manor of Randolph. Kenneth was born to Albert and Margaret (Wesner) Zieman on June 20, 1922 in Randolph, Wisconsin where he resided most of his life. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1940 as valedictorian. Kenneth was called into service in 1942. He served three years, a year and a half in Co D-362 Infantry Bn – 91st Infantry Division in Africa and Italy. He earned the European ribbon with three battle stars, combat infantry badge and a purple heart and cluster. He was united in marriage to Sadie Vander Werff on September 3, 1946 at the First Reformed Church of Randolph.
Ken went to work at Jung’s Seed Company in 1946 as a printer and retired in 1988. He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Randolph. He served as deacon and elder, taught Sunday school and Bible class for 25 years. He also served 9 years on the local school board. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. Ken was known for his great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing it with his family, friends and co-workers. He enjoyed gardening, golfing with his friends and was an avid reader. He also took pleasure in watching many different kinds of sports, but especially the Brewers and Packers. Following his retirement, he and Sadie enjoyed taking vacations to Florida.
Kenneth is survived by four children, Sharon (David) Prochnow of Cambria; Mary (Dennis) Kaschub of Milwaukee; Kenneth (Cindy) Zieman Jr. of Beaver Dam; and James (Gail) Zieman of Waukesha. Nine grandchildren, David Prochnow (friend Amy); Jon Prochnow (friend Meghan); Shelly (Tommy) Seebach; Mike (Kristin) Kaschub; Nicole Goeman; Ben (Julie) Zieman; Jenna, Maddie (fiancé Chris Otto), Alaina Zieman; Eight great-grandchildren, Reed and Rylee Prochnow; Lucas and Sadie Zieman; Addisyn and Westyn Kaschub; Ian and Jadzia Goeman; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Tamminga; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie, three sisters, Norma (Frederic) Vorlop, Margaret (Lorence) Schnur and Dorothy (Vernon) Waterworth; four brothers, Clayton (Martha) Zieman, Harold (Margaret) Zieman, Merwin Zieman, and Orlyn (Arline) Zieman; two brothers-in-law, George (Charlotte) Vander Werff and Jense Tamminga; and two nieces, Ruth Tamminga and Marilyn Slinger.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at First Reformed Church, 406 South High Street, Randolph with Rev. Tim Ehrhardt officiating. Interment will follow at Randolph Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 9510 Honor Guard.
Kenneth’s family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.
A memorial fund is being established.
