Carl Hoffman

Carl Hoffman, age 85, of Randolph, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at his home.

A memorial service will be at 4 P.M. on Friday, May 30, 2014 at First Reformed Church, Friesland, with Rev. Rob Ford officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Friesland Cemetery.

Carl’s family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Friday beginning at 2:30 until the time of services.

Carl was born on August 25, 1928 in Fox Lake Township on the family farm, a son of Samuel and Elsie Alsum Hoffman. He attended Blanecae School. On July 31, 1952, Carl was united in marriage to Murial Westra. Carl was a lifelong area resident and a farmer. He worked hard and loved fixing anything and everything for his family and friends. Carl enjoyed hunting and looked forward to his annual hunting trip to Wyoming. For many years, Carl was a member of First Randolph Christian Reformed Church, East Friesland, where he directed the Male Chorus. Later he sang with the Friesland Male Chorus, and attended the First Reformed Church of Friesland. Carl loved quoting the Bible and singing to whoever would listen.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Elyn Hoffman, of Friesland; four granddaughters: Caralee Cambria, Audra, Columbus, Samantha, Randolph, Jodi, Friesland, six great-grandchildren: Dakota, Xzavyor, Quinton, Dayton, Nylee, Tremayne, three brothers: John (Evelyn) Hoffman, Randolph, Melvin (Alice) Hoffman, Cambria, Ronald (Harriet) Hoffman, Randolph, three sisters: Cora (Brian) Hemp, Waupun, Caroline Heeringa, Randolph, Joanne (Marvin) Alsum, Randolph, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Myrt of 61 years, two daughters: Elaine and Cathleen, twin great-grandsons: Armani and Malik, one brother, Jacob (Margie) Hoffman, three sisters: Tina (William) Dykstra, Agnes (Edward) Westra, and Eleanor in infancy.
