Vivian June Smith, 85, of Oakfield, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 245 South Second Street, Oakfield.
Vivian's family will receive relatives and friends at church on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service.
Vivian was born on July 10, 1928 in rural Oakfield, a daughter of Arthur and Erna (Macheel) Reklau. She was baptized on July 29, 1928 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brownsville, confirmed at St. Luke’s in Oakfield on April 6, 1942. As a child her family moved a lot during the depression, and Vivian worked for several great aunts. During her high school years in Oakfield, she worked in the shoe factory in Mayville. After her graduation, Vivian was employed at the meat market in Fond du Lac. On June 12, 1948, she was united in marriage to Samuel Smith. The young couple farmed in Oakfield for a number of years but quit farming due to her husband’s asthma. They built their home in the fall of 1956, where Vivian has resided. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Oakfield.
Vivian is survived by two sons: Rev. Steven Smith, Buffalo, MN, and Rev. Robert (Eileen) Smith, Hastings, Nebraska, six grandchildren: Adam Smith, Crystal Smith, Emily Smith, Jason Smith, Andrea Smith, and Eric Smith, two great-grandchildren, Layla and Lathan, his brother, Delore (Helen) Smith, Indianapolis, IN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister Helen Schmidt, a daughter-in-law, Amy Smith and a great grandson, Langston Smith.
