Lester Arthur Fischer, age 88 of Waupun, died on Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Christian Home Rehabilitation Center where he briefly resided.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 W Main Street, Waupun. Pastor Elizabeth Lee will officiate, and burial will follow in Cattaraugus Cemetery.
Lester’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday at the funeral home beginning at 9 A.M. until the hour of service.
Lester was born on August 24, 1925 in Columbia County, a son of William L and Bertha (Bornmann) Fischer. He was united in marriage to Pauline Marie Taylor on July 21, 1946 in Waupun. Lester was employed at John Deere in Horicon for thirty-six years as a painter. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he enjoyed mowing the lawn and helping out with their annual Easter Breakfast. Lester was a true outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a business of sharpening lawn mower blades, and in his retirement was a custom lawn mower. Lester also enjoyed snowplowing driveways in the winter. He was a dependable crossing guard in the city of Waupun for twenty-one years. Lester also enjoyed polka dancing, friday night fish fry, and the Waupun Truck ‘n Show.
Lester is survived by two sons: Dennis (Karen) Fischer, Reeseville, Gregory (Rhonda) Fischer, Horicon, a daughter, Lori (Mark) Schmidt, Waupun, fifteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a son-in-law, Alvin Mann, Brandon, his brother, Earl (Lorraine) Fischer, Ripon, two sisters: Delores Landsinger, Beaver Dam, and Gertrude Van Loo, Waupun, a sister-in-law, LaVerne Fischer, Waupun, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Judy Mann, a brother, William “Charles” Fischer, and two brothers-in-law, Russell Landsinger, and James Van Loo.
