Eugene Donald Schiniger, age 90 of Waupun, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.
Eugene was born on May 26, 1923 in Beaver Dam, a son of William and Blanche (Louden) Schiniger. He graduated from the Beaver Dam High School, and entered into service with the U.S. Army. On June 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Arlene Prust at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun. After living in Beaver Dam for a few years, they moved to Waupun in 1953. Jake was employed as a truck driver and over the years worked for several local trucking companies, the longest was Bird trucking, which he retired from in 1983. Jake was a hard working, fun loving father and grandfather who built many precious memories for his family. He enjoyed driving, cobbling things together, and spending time with family and friends. Family always came first, and in recent years he was delighted with great-grandchildren, and enjoyed their visits. Over the years, Jake has met many people on the road and made many friends to which he says, “good-bye”. He was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun.
Jake will be dearly missed by his son, Lance (Char) Schiniger, his two daughters: Gwen (Greg) McDowell and Robyn (Mike) Pluim; four granddaughters: Rheanna (Allan) Krentz, Tessa (Jared) Oosterhouse, Devan and Hailey Pluim, a grandson, Brian (Missy) Loeck, great-grandchildren: Kameron Krentz, Ella Oosterhouse, Gabby and Max Loeck, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene, his sister Winifred and her husband Donald and a nephew Ken.
A Celebration of Jake’s life will be held at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 525 W Main Street, Waupun, with Rev. Elizabeth Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard.
Jake’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday at the church beginning at 11 A.M. until the time of service.
