Mary Estelle Bobholz (nee Niehoff), found peace and was born to eternal life on March 15, 2014, at the age of 78, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born a farm girl on January 6, 1936 to Frank and Gertrude (Leisses) Niehoff, Mary was a 1954 graduate from Cambria High School, went on to get her teaching certificate from County Normal in Columbus, and taught for six years, starting out in a one-room country school. She married Donald F. Bobholz on June 13, 1959 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Randolph. She was active there for many years - teaching catechism and was a member of the Christian Mother’s Society. She continued her church involvement at Annunciation parish in Fox Lake where she was a Eucharistic minister and ministered to the homebound. Mary and Don raised 6 children in their Friesland home. After the youngest started school, Mary started a second career with the United States Postal Service - first as postal clerk and then as Postmaster in Friesland. She also returned to playing the drums as she had in high school - joining the Friesland Community Band for 27 years. Along with music, she enjoyed camping/traveling and spending time with her family.
Mary will be deeply missed by her loving children - Dennis (Sue) of Racine, Duane (Agnieszka) of South Beloit, Diane (Andy) Kastenholz of Menomonee Falls, Deborah (Rob) Jonas of Milwaukee, Donna Bobholz (Tim Foust) of La Crosse, David (Mary Jo) of Madison; six grandchildren – Stephanie and Kevin Bobholz, Olga Plichta, Crystal Kastenholz, Sarah and Nicholas Jonas. Mary is further survived by a sister - Gertrude Niehoff, OSF; a brother - Raymond (Virginia) Niehoff; nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Don, her infant son Daniel, and three sisters – Margaret, Helen (James) Miller, and Dorothy.
A funeral mass for Mary will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 22 at Annunciation Catholic Parish, 305 West Green Street, Fox Lake, WI with Father Michael Wild officiating. Burial will follow at Annunciation Catholic Cemetery.
Mary's family will receive relatives and friends at Randolph Community Funeral Home, 208 South High Street, on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 5:00-7:30 P.M. and on Saturday March 22, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at Annunciation Catholic Parish.
In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
