Robert Whittemore, of Ripon passed away suddenly on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the age of 95.
Robert was born on August 13, 1918, to Francis and Lillian (Zuelsdorf) Whittemore, at their dairy farm near the intersection of Radio Road and Liner Road. His early adult years were spent farming, which made him appreciate his job in later years at the Ripon Cookie factory. He loved to travel and talk about his trips. He kept youthful enthusiasm and learned to swim at age 65, dive at 70, and made his maiden parachute jump at 80. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, and Ripon College ball games. He once said he hoped there was a golf course in Heaven. He had the ability to always look ahead to things he could do rather than dwell on losses. We never heard him say a bad word anout other people. He would walk up to strangers and discuss the Packers.
Robert's wife Gertrude died in 2003. He survived by his sister Dorothy Dixon Pagel of Brandon, nieces Mary Deonier of Cincinnati, Ohio & Stella Horstman of Boulder, Colorado and nephew Thomas Dixon of Melbourne, Australia. Also survived by many grand nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on February 19, 2014, at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun, with Pastor Jeremy Vander Galien officiating. Burial will be in Brandon Cemetery.
