Margaret Pauline Ries

March 20, 1914 — November 15, 2013

Margaret Frei Ries, 99, of Brownsville, died at Hope Health & Rehabilitation Center on Friday, November 15, 2013 and passed into the presence of her Lord. She was born on March 20, 1914 in Fairwater, WI to August and Louise (Beigel) Loeffler. In 1934, she married Edward Frei. He died in 1969. In 1971, she married Dr. Michael Ries. Dr. Ries died in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents, step-son, Stanley Ries and step-daughter in law, Margaret Ries Oechsner.

Margaret attended Fairwater Grade School, graduated from Brandon High School and Oshkosh Business College. She used her acquired accounting skills at Frei’s Store in Fairwater, and Ripon Hospital, Ripon. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Lomira, a volunteer in the Brownsville Volunteers, and a lifetime member of the Fairwater Historical Society. Mrs. Ries lived 57 years in Fairwater.

She is survived by three daughters, two sons, two step-daughters and two step-sons, Velma (Claus) Reichle, Charlottsville, VA; Carol (Gary) Cooke, Seattle, WA; Joann (Michael) Sommers, Jupiter, FL; Bruce (Joann) Frei, Valrico, FL; Warren (Ann) Frei, Lakeland, FL; Katherine Hardin, Stockton, CA; Paula Ries, San Diego, Ca; Thomas (Viz) Ries, Berlin, WI; Michael (Barbara) Ries, Eau Claire, WI; one sister, Irene Cox, Mission, TX; two sisters-in- law, Virginia Coates, West Bend, WI; Margaret Frei, Markesan, WI. eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nine step-grandchildren, and nine step great grandchildren.

Mrs. Ries would like to express special gratitude and thanks to the William Cook family of Brownsville, and Joan Ryan of Oakfield, for all of their help in her time of need.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 699 Milwaukee Street, Lomira, WI. on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 10:00 AM. A time of visitation and support will be held beginning at 8:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Fairwater Cemetery. She is commended into the Lord’s keeping.
