Ruth Ann Bixby, of Waupun, died on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at the Christian Home.
A Service to Celebrate of Ruth’s Life will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 W. Main Street, Waupun, WI, with Rev. Rolf Amundsen and Pastor Wick Hubers officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
Ruth’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 A.M. until the hour of service.
A memorial fund has been established for the Christian Home & Rehabilitation Center, 331 Bly Street, Waupun, WI, 53963.
Ruth was born on October 28, 1918 in Coffee Springs, Alabama, a daughter of Andrew and Mattie Weeks. Following her graduation from Enterprise High School, Ruth attended Beauty School. She worked in Enterprise, AL, as a beautician at the Rawls Hotel before her marriage. It was here that she met a handsome, professional baseball player and manager, and on December 1, 1948, she married Richard Bixby in Blakely, Georgia. They moved to Waupun, WI after their marriage. Ruth cherished the role of homemaker and caring for her husband and children. She was a loving mom, devoted to her children’s every need. As the mother of a handicapped daughter, Ruth was an advocate for and instrumental in the beginning of handicapped education in the city of Waupun. Ruth enjoyed quilting in her spare time. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Waupun.
Ruth is survived by Richard, her husband of 65 years, one son, Jim (Mary Ann) Bixby, Harford, AL, two daughters: Bev (Rick) Hartwig, and Faye Bixby, both of Waupun, four grandchildren: Rich (Misty) Bixby, Geneva, AL, Kellie (Jason) Carlee, Calera, AL, Stephanie Hartwig, and Jim Hartwig, both of Waupun, three great – grandchildren: Ross Bixby, Grayton and Katie Grace Carlee, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, James and Mayda Bixby, five siblings: Jadie (Lovie) Weeks, Ray (Rubye) Weeks, Rex (Mildred) Weeks, Ralph (Cora) Weeks, Letha (Abb) Beckham, a sister-in-law, Jane (Bob) Wagner, and numerous nieces and nephews.
