Muriel "Myrt" Hoffman

Muriel Gertrude Hoffman, 83, of Randolph, went to her Lord and Savior at sunset on October 25, 2013, with family by her side.

A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, November 1, 2013, at First Reformed Church, 107 E. Winnebago, Friesland, with Rev. Rob Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Friesland Cemetery.

Myrt’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 9:30 till the time of service.

A Memorial fund had been established in Muriel’s name.

Muriel’s life began at sunrise on April 12, 1930, at the family farm near Friesland, WI, the daughter of John and Grace (Homan) Westra. Myrt was a graduate of Randolph High School. On July 31, 1952 she married Carl Hoffman at the First Reformed Church in Friesland. Myrt taught elementary school for a number of years. She then chose to work on the family farm with her husband and raise a family of their own. She spent many years teaching bible classes in church and was a counselor for “Calvinettes” the church’s program for young girls. Myrt enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting and sewing clothes for her granddaughters. She was an avid reader, enjoyed having coffee with her friends, and playing various card games with her family.

Muriel is survived by Carl, her husband of 61 years, her daughter, Elyn Hoffman of Friesland, four granddaughters: Caralee of Cambria, Audra of Columbus; Samantha and Jodi, both of Friesland, eight great-grandchildren: Dakota, Xzavyor, Quinton, Dayton, Nylee, Tremayne due in November, and twins due in April; two brothers: Alfred (Shirley) Westra of Utah; Roger (Marion) Westra of Colorado, two sisters: Arlene (John) Baas of Florida, and Ruth (Russ) Syens of Friesland, as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Elaine Grace at the age of 3 years old and Cathleen Ann at the age of 10 years old; two brothers: Donald and Wilfred Westra, and a sister Ruth Westra.
