Wesley Giebink, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior September 2, 2013 in Rolla, Missouri. He resided at the Presbyterian Manor in Rolla since 2008 to be near family. He was in the care of Benchmark Healthcare of Rolla, Missouri at the time of his passing.
A memorial service and burial will be held for both Wesley and Harriet Giebink at 10:00 am on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun, Wisconsin.
Wes was born in Waupun, Wisconsin in 1930, the son of Wesley and Mildred (Cobb) Giebink who preceded him in death. He graduated from Waupun High School in 1948 and continued his education in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin in mortuary science. He was licensed as a funeral director in 1951 and became associated with Kohls Funeral Home of Waupun prior to entering the Army that same year. He served with graves registration in Europe during the Korean War. After discharge he returned to Waupun and Kohls Company Furniture & Funeral Home where he became a full partner retailing furniture and serving the community in funeral service for forty five years retiring in 1994. During those years, Wes was active in civic functions, director of the chamber of commerce, Rotary club and various organizations including the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association. He was a charter member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun in which he was an elder and deacon.
Wes was married to Harriet (Van Galen) Giebink of Waupun in 1952 while in the Army. That union was blessed with two sons: Allen (Laurie) Giebink, Rolla, MO; Steven (deceased) (Colleen) Giebink, Racine, WI; and one daughter Peggy (David) Wickman, Sandy Hook, CT. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Adam (Patty) Giebink, Marthasville, MO; Brian (Erin) Giebink, Minneapolis, MN; Diana Wickman, Pocasset, MA; Paula Wickman, Farmington, CT; Steven Giebink, De Pere, WI. He is further survived by one brother Larry (Wilma) Giebink, Beaver Dam, WI.
Arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla and Kohls Community Funeral Home of Waupun.
