Gregory was born on December 1, 1968 in Oak Lawn, Illinois, the son of Arlin and Carol (Blauw) Medema. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1986, and in Feb. of 1987 he joined the United States Navy, serving in Pensicola, FL and Winter Harbor, Maine until January of 1990. Greg attended Dordt College for a year. He worked at the Bindery in Beaver Dam, then at Schumann Printers in Fall River. Greg was united in marriage to Amy Ray on Oct. 18, 2008. Greg was employed as a program assistant for Attic Correctional Service in Madison for the past 14 years. For the last five years, he would also work for The Arc in Portage on weekends. Greg had a large heart for children and adults with disabilities. He volunteered regularly for Special Olympics. He was an awesome uncle, spoiling his nieces and nephews by always having a toy for them that would stimulate their minds. Greg liked being outdoors, and loved hunting and fishing. He was always tinkering with something; taking things apart and putting them back together, often having parts leftover. He was a loving husband, devoted son who cared for his mother, a fun-loving brother and uncle, and loyal friend to many.

Gregory is survived by his wife, Amy, his mother, Carol Vander Ploeg; a sister, Rhonda Medema and her son, Colton; a brother, Keith (Amy) Medema and their children, Wesley, Nicholas and Madelynn all of Randolph. He is further survived by his father-in-law, Harlan Ray, Pardeeville; brother-in-law, Cory (Donna) Ray and their children, Kristen and Erin, and granddaughter Riley, Sun Prairie, other relatives and many friends.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, his step-father, Harry Vander Ploeg, and his mother-in-law, Diane Ray.
