Arthur “Art” Alvin Kragel, age 90, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer, Iowa. Art, until very recently, had been a resident of Ridgeway Place in Waterloo, IA.
A celebration service of Arthur’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun WI with Pastor Mike Stock officiating Burial will follow in the Forest Mound Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard.
Arthur’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Art was born on June 7, 1923 in Oakfield, WI the eldest child of Louis and Selma (Wild) Kragel. He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his service, Art was united in marriage to Marian Oligney in 1943.In his earlier years he was employed at Shalers in Waupun for several years. Art moved to the Waterloo, Iowa area where he has resided for the past 65 years, many of those years living near Meyers Lake, in Evansdale. Art worked as a product handler for Rath Packing Company which he retired from in 1985.
Art is survived by four children: sons, Edward “Butch” (Jaci) Kenney, Orange City, FL, Michael Kragel, Fort Myers, FL, Thomas “Tom” (Donna) Kragel, Traer, Iowa, daughter, Margaret “Margie” (Jim) Welshons, Ashland, Nebraska, twelve grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Melanie Kragel, Waterloo, IA and two sisters, Dorothy Berger, Brownsville, WI and Jeanette Seering, Beaver Dam, WI nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marian in 2000; his son, Daniel “Dan” Kragel in 2012, a sister, Alice Kragel, two brothers, Robert and Louis “Bud” Kragel and two brothers-in-law, Norbert Berger and Bill Seering.
The family of Art Kragel is grateful to the staff of Ridgeway Place and Sunrise Hill for the special care you have provided to him; and many thanks to Tom, Donna, and Keri Lynn for the consistent aid you have given. We do appreciate all you have done.
