Shirley Oosterhouse, age 86, Randolph and formerly of Waupun, was born to eternal life on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Golden Living Center – Continental Manor in Randolph with family at her side.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 410 S West Street, Waupun, officiated by Rev. Jeff Brower. Burial will follow in the Forest Mound Cemetery.
Shirley’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 15 at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 W Main Street, Waupun from 4 – 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
A memorial fund has been for Golden Living Center - Continental Manor, 502 S High Street, Randolph, WI.
Shirley was born on October 31, 1926 in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Zwier and Edith (Postma) Snoeyink. On August 7, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage to Harry Oosterhouse. They farmed in Michigan until 1966 when they moved to WI, farming in the Waupun and Brandon area until 1984 when they moved to the city of Waupun. Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. Besides working hard on the farm, Shirley was employed at Gysbers Grocery Store in the meat department and as a cook at the Christian Home in Waupun. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles and cooking; often treating her family with German Potato Salad, her specialty. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother and crocheted treasured afghans for all the grandchildren. Shirley was a beloved charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Waupun, where she played organ, sang in the choir, attended coffee break, Senior Bible Study, and served in the Women’s Ministries. Later in life, she enjoyed socializing with her friends, going out for coffee, taking bus trips, volunteering at Bargains Galore Thrift Store and attending grandchildren’s events.
Shirley is survived by her children: Harvey (Sherry) Oosterhouse, Waupun, Jan (Wayne) Kok, Steve (Ev) Oosterhouse, both of Randolph, Bob (Nancy) Oosterhouse, Roger Oosterhouse both of Waupun, Sherry (Jay) Vree, of Randolph, 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnie (Shirl) Snoeyink, one sister, Barb Oosterink, three sisters-in-law, Thelma and Dolly Snoeyink, and Marilyn Koole, all of Michigan, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry in 1996, three brothers: Vern, Cal, and Al Snoeyink, brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon Oosterink, Geraldine Snoeyink, Alice Oosterhouse, Henry & Maxine Oosterhouse, Gus & Johanna Postma, Corney & Angie Oosterhouse, and Fred & Ruby Oosterhouse.
