Pat and his late wife, Peggy (Porter) Martin had made Beaver Dam and the Madison area their homes while raising their family, then settled in Portage after their retirement in 1991. But they always considered Waupun their true home. It was there that they met as members of the Graduating Class of 1944, and where they married in 1946.
Pat was born on July 27, 1926 in Milwaukee to William and Frances (Majesky) Gallagher. Pat and his mother and stepfather, Darrell Martin, moved to Waupun during his early years. He studied business at UW-Milwaukee upon his discharge from military service. But his outgoing personality and Irish gift of gab made him a natural at working with the public. Pat employed those talents in his years in industrial development with WI Power and Light, as a radio host for WBEV in Beaver Dam, in real estate sales, and as a lobbyist / government relations specialist for Madison Gas and Electric where he finished his career.
Pat and Peggy relished their retirement years, spending winters in Florida and Wisconsin summers on the golf course. Always the politician, Pat was a lifelong Republican and served as alderman for the City of Beaver Dam. He was a Kiwanian, Packer fan, animal lover, and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
Pat was preceded in death by Peggy in 2004. He is survived by his four children, Miki (Jim) Martin Erschnig, Pewaukee; Sherry Martin, Los Angeles; Pat (Jeanne Appleton) Martin, Janesville; and Betsy (Kevin) Martin Devine, Edgerton; his grandchildren, Jason Rebillot, Boston; Leigh Rebillot, Anthem, AZ; Bethany (Jesse) Guist, Madison; Brandon Martin, Sun Prairie; and Sheila Karls, Los Angeles; and his great grandchildren, Jesson and Jenova Guist, Madison; as well as other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Pat’s name to the Wisconsin Veterans Home, 21425 G Spring Street, Union Grove, WI 53182, or to a charity of your choice will be deeply appreciated.
